Family House serves as a home away from home for families of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses by providing physical comfort and emotional support, free from financial concerns.
Founded in 1981, Family House is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization providing temporary housing to families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at the University of California San Francisco Benioff Children's Hospital. Qualifying families live more than 50 miles from UCSF, and many live at or below the low-income status as determined by UCSF. Our location sustains nearly a 100% occupancy rate and can accommodate 240 people per night. Over the course of a year we serve more than 3,000 families.

What is your primary product or service?
We provide free, temporary housing for families of children being treated at the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are 100% free to all families; all families are referred to us through a UCSF social worker.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
The Nancy and Stephen Grand Family House in Mission Bay opened in March, 2016, and with it, we more than doubled the capacity of our previous locations in the Inner Sunset. We now provide free, temporary housing to 80 families per night. That's 240 people per night, over 3,000 families per year.

We are independently operated, and are supported by donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations. We receive no public assistance or money from UCSF.
