How long have you been in business?
2008 marks our 20th anniversary!
What is your primary product or service?
We offer a wide range of ways for businesses to reliably and securely communicate with clients, vendors, staff -- and to protect, preserve, and organize their critical business data. This encompasses phone systems, computer networks + security. backups and disaster recovery planning, connectivity, video surveillance, backup power, cabling - and a menu of hosted services from telephony to email and spam filtering for organizations that don't want to own and manage infraastructure.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
When I was in 4th grade, I used to come home from school and call what was then known as Bell Labs to ask them questions about how the telephone network worked - this was back in 1964. One day I came home to find a present -- someone who I never got to thank had dropped off a box of old parts from Bell Labs for me to tinker with. I think that was the beginning!
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
People tell us repeatedly that they chose us because
- we helpe them learn more about the challenge they were trying to solve, and various ways to approach it than all the other vendors they met
- they had a deep sense of trust that we would do an excellent job, with a solid implementation plan, and paying attention to detail - so they could relax that the project would get done right, without any 'surprises' or unplanned interruptions to their business flow.
We're not a 9-5 operation ... our people are dedicated, well-trained, and available 24 x 7 for situations that require 'right now' assistance.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
In the past 12 months, we installed systems in 26 states, and in Japan. We have a global reach with a network of excellent partners - so we're pretty distance-insensitive.

Our SF-based team physically services a 150 mile radius. Our extended teams installed and supported systems in 26 states plus Japan this year
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Synertel is owned by Ben Stiegler and Barbara Gross, long-time Bay area residents who are active in a variety of civic and educational organizations in Alameda county.
Duane Sheets is our excellent operations manager, and Dee Long is director of project management.
What are your hours of operation?
Office 8AM-5pm; service 24 x 7. We may doze, but we never close!
