Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1978
What is your primary product or service?
WOMAN Inc is dedicated to empowering people impacted by domestic violence.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
When I was a Women’s Studies major in college, I started volunteering at an agency in Ventura County. The agency offered services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse/assault. It just boggled my mind that someone who says they love you one moment could intentionally harm you a moment later. The injustice of it all resonated with me, and I felt compelled to stay a part of this field long after I left school. - Jill, Executive Director
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
WOMAN Inc offers our community a range of holistic services, focused on survivors of domestic violence. We believe survivors are the experts in their own lives, and won't tell anyone what they SHOULD and SHOULDN'T do. You can count on us to support you, and leave a prescriptive treatment agenda by the wayside!
Last year, WOMAN Inc answered over 23,000 calls on our hotline, meeting survivors of domestic violence where they are at emotionally and offering unconditional support.
Our one-of-a-kind therapy program connects survivors of domestic violence with on-going in depth support as they deal with the impact abuse has had on their lives, and the lives of their children. We sat with over 400 survivors last year alone. We provided over 1,900 hours of individual therapy to survivors and their children last year.
In support group, survivors of domestic violence are connected with their peers and see that they arent alone and no longer have to deal with the isolation and secrecy abuse in the home can breed.
Over 200 adult survivors enrolled in our Support Groups last year. While in support group, over 100 children received their own support. Over 350 hours of support group took place at WOMAN Inc last year.
Our volunteer program is about more than training community members about domestic violence, its about growing a network of service providers who will do their part to end the cycle of violence.
In the Latina Program, survivors who are mono-lingual Spanish speakers receive a graduated level of advocacy, as we help them set goals and navigate complicated systems that can help end the cycle of violence in their lives. Over 45 survivors entered into our Latina Program last year.
